Things to do

🎷Nothing makes you feel more hip than catching the Jazz Jam at Blue Jay's Listening Room. If you've never visited this music lounge, this event is the best introduction to cool vibes and local talent. Doors open 7pm Tuesday for $10 (cash only). Tip for munchers, limited snacks are available, so eat beforehand!

Cool off at Fishweir Brewing Company as they round off their Summer Talk Series: Sow & Grow on Wednesday, August 21, with a movie night. They are exploring topics within regenerative agriculture, community farming, and local food systems. Grocery vendors will be present, so go snag fresh bread, eggs, meat, and honey!

🐶 Who will let the dogs out? To Barkfest this weekend from 11am - 3pm! This dog friendly event with pet-friendly vendors and activities is FREE at Riverside Square! Don't miss your chance to oohh and aahh at all the cute dogs!

Nonprofit Highlight

Our local theatre, The 5&Dime, is currently showing “the ripple, the wave that carried me home” by Tony-nominated playwright Christina Anderson. This play is a moving exploration of a family’s response to injustice and a daughter’s reckoning with her political inheritance. Learn more and buy tickets here.

Civil Events

This is your city! Checkout what your representatives are talking about:

Finance Committee meets Tuesday at 9:30am on the 1st floor of City Hall

Transportation, Energy, & Utilities Committee meets at 2pm on the 1st floor of City Hall

Beach Clean Up - Volunteers Needed - Keep Jacksonville Beautiful will partner with sustainable product manufacturer phade on a beach cleanup from 7 – 9 a.m., Saturday, August 24 as part of the company’s “Beach Cleanup Tour,” a Florida-centric effort that aims to enlist residents and businesses in ridding local shores of billions of pieces of trash.

🏈 Sports

Jacksonville Jaguars took home another preseason win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! Quarterback Mac Jones said, “I think it’s been really laid back here…Obviously winning is fun… hopefully we can do some of that, too”.

That’s how we like to describe Jacksonville too. Laid back, fun, and we like to win sometimes, too.

The last preseason game gets played this Friday at 7pm against the Atlanta Falcons.

Treat Yourself

To fresh donuts from Donut Shoppe on University Blvd. A recent review claims the donuts melt in your mouth. It might be our duty as Jacksonvillians to find out.

For my birthday this year, I'll be treating myself to their donut CAKE. Yes, you read that correctly.
